As part of a holistic approach, Biosystems identified open questions in the area of digitisation. For example, there was a lack of clarity about how to improve customer service, optimise internal processes and meet requirements such as data security. In order to gain an overview and define a clear approach, a digitalisation concept was developed together with Banian.

For Biosystems, it was clear that a holistic approach was needed and that the benefits for customers had to be clear. Banian's task was to work with Biosystems to develop a clear, holistic approach that would clearly demonstrate the benefits and process improvements.

As a first step, interviews and workshops were held with all business units to analyse the current situation and identify all problems. These problems were categorised according to various criteria and ranked in terms of relevance. At the same time, a digitisation strategy was developed with the management, providing guidelines in various areas such as architecture, procurement, governance, etc. for the subsequent development of solution options.

Solution options were developed iteratively through several phases. These options were evaluated, prioritised and controversially discussed in workshops. The results were captured in the dimensions 'effort' and 'impact'. This gives the portfolio a balanced structure: it delivers short-term results and at the same time enables long-term initiatives to be launched.
