Data Governance
Coordinated data management throughout the company is the central element of all digital activities. A data governance strategy enables the value of data within an organization to be maximized in a targeted manner, potential risks to be managed effectively, and costs to be reduced.
We provide support in setting up a company-wide organization, including the necessary processes to ensure governance. To ensure that this also functions sustainably, we accompany the introduction and transition to operations with appropriate pilot projects. Data governance includes:
- Rules and procedures
- Data lifecycle: how do we collect, store, use and dispose of data?
- Master data: How do we manage our master data?
- Data risks
- Establishment of policies and procedures for assessing and prioritizing risks
- Risk management: Identification - Monitoring - Mitigation
- Roles and responsibilities
- People & Culture: How are employees involved?
- Data Ownership: Which people are empowered to act as owners of data? What other roles are necessary?
- Training: How are employees empowered to handle data?
- Data Quality
- Data quality: how do we measure data quality, what are our goals and milestones to become a data-driven organization?
- Catalog of Measures: What are our measures to increase quality? How do we make them measurable? Who controls the measures?
A data governance framework must be aligned with the business strategy and the needs of the organization to enable the organization to sustainably increase its data literacy and data intelligence.
Creating value with Data Catalog
Data Catalog, or data cataloging, is the management of metadata and the targeted establishment of data governance. This metadata describes characteristics and properties of the individual data sets and contains any relevant business or technical context.
Data Catalog enables efficient projects thanks to the provision of a business meaning of the data from the perspective of all business units and the linkage with the technical perspective and provides an important foundation for all data-driven projects and decisions.
Thanks to Data Catalog, companies can fulfill the following aspects:
- Clear definitions of key performance indicators with description, calculation, dimensions and use of the KPIs.
- Responsibilities and accountabilities are defined.
- Company-wide data definitions and an end-to-end understanding of data flows are in place.
- Legal certainty in connection with the revised Data Protection Act, e.g. with a clean processing directory.
- There are more reliable business insights in the area of analytics and controlling.
- (IT) projects and data projects are accelerated and supported.
- Data quality management is systematically established and continuously implemented and improved (measurement, overview and measures).
- Systems, applications, processes and data are interlinked.
- Costs can be saved in the event of a data breach.
KPI catalog
Key performance indicators (KPIs) are an important tool for measuring the success, performance or capacity utilization of a company or even individual organizational units. With a standardized KPI catalog, a company creates transparency for identifying opportunities for improvement. Furthermore, a key performance indicator catalog provides:
- all technical information on how a KPI is structured
- any information on the significance of the KPI for the company
- a central and generally accessible repository and reference of all relevant KPIs
- independence from other systems
- a consolidated and specified view of prioritized metrics for concrete implementation
A key figure catalog can be implemented sustainably and in the long term with a data catalog solution. However, it is already worthwhile to maintain such a directory without specific software. We will be happy to advise you on the implementation.
