Pistor AG is the leading independent trading and service company for the bakery and confectionery industries, as well as the catering and care sectors. Pistor supplies locations throughout Switzerland and has an efficient logistics system with a comprehensive and specialised range of over 23,000 articles. In addition, Pistor offers its customers individual services such as ordering and accounting support.
The project: Cloud Data Platform
Together with Pistor, Banian developed a concept for a new BI platform and architecture that could grow with requirements. Accordingly, the goal was defined that the platform should grow with the requirements of the business users and therefore be flexible, scalable and agile. Within the framework of a pilot project, Banian was able to support the project team in defining the target architecture, its structure and configuration, as well as the implementation of the business requirements.
Within four months - with a commitment of about 1-2 days per week - we were able to achieve usable results for the department. Based on the model-based DWH automation process developed by Banian, the requirements of the departments could be modelled and documented as business object models.
The challenges: Performance and scalability
The BI architecture was heavily influenced by the company's ERP system. Over the years, various analytical functions were implemented and made available. As the demands on data availability grew, performance and scalability became increasingly difficult.
The solution: Flexibility | Scalability | Agility
Based on the model-based DWH automation process, the technically necessary objects could then be automatically derived. The use of the Data Vault modelling technique allows the logical model to be extended iteratively, thus remaining agile and flexible. Thanks to the use of the Snowflake Cloud Data Platform, the solution can grow quickly and easily with the volume of data and the number of users.

"The combination of Cloud DWH and Data Vault modeling technology allows us to build our Data Platform in a timely and incremental manner, which can grow with the needs of Pistor AG. Without large upfront investments, we laid a solid foundation for further BI projects within a short time. The reporting created on this foundation will be further developed in stages.
