Holistic data architecture in the environment of an ERP implementation

The project: Development of a holistic data architecture

As part of various digitalisation projects, such as the introduction of a new ERP solution (Microsoft Dynamics 365 Finance & Operations), a CPQ (Experlogix Configure Price Quote) component in the CRM and the rollout of telematics for vending machines, Banian supported the Selecta Group in the implementation of a holistic data architecture.

Challenges: Parallel projects and many national companies

The structure, with parallel projects and an international organisation with 14 national companies, posed a major challenge in terms of coordinating and defining an integrated application and data architecture. Many individual data objects and the associated business objects had to be identified and documented.

Solution: A holistic application and data architecture

In addition to the identification and documentation of data and business objects, the corresponding mapping in the application landscape was recorded and the target image was formulated. Tools such as MID Innovator, LeanIX and Alteryx were used to implement these activities. By establishing the data and application architecture, it was possible to directly support and significantly accelerate the data migration within the ERP project as a concrete measure. The architectural basis helped to identify and understand the relevant objects more quickly and to map them to the future structure. In this context, the associated data flows from the on-premises data world to the future cloud solution were also set up.
