Building a DWH based on Data Vault 2.0

Griesser, a company with a long tradition, is renowned for its expertise in the manufacture of innovative, high-quality sun protection products. The Griesser Group is now one of Europe's leading suppliers of high-quality sun protection solutions for windows and terraces.
The project: Modern BI architecture
The previous BI solution prepared the ERP data and made it available for financial reporting. Preparing and delivering Excel reports was very time consuming and was only done once a week. Banian analysed the existing DWH and, together with the controlling team, created a functional business object model. On this basis, the DWH could be fully automated using the model-based DWH automation processes developed by Banian.
The challenges: Diverse data sources and poor data quality
The many different data sources were combined in a time-consuming manner in the previous construct. Data quality issues from different source systems jeopardised a consistent reporting base.
The solution: Historicised and secured data, flexible customisation options
We have consolidated various data in a domain-oriented model and generated all new DWH objects and loading processes based on MID Innovator using theData Vault modelling technique. Microsoft SSAS tabular models are now being created for the reporting layer, which can be accessed from PowerBI Online via the PowerBI Gateway. The data is fully historicised, providing a secure basis for standardised reporting and auditing. In addition, the new solution offers maximum flexibility for expansion, making it quicker and easier to connect additional data sources.
